This involves considering the geology, the types of wild plants and animals that inhabit the area, and the history of the land. By studying the genius loci or conducting an audit of the land, we can make more informed decisions in our gardens. Spirits and even trees may have been in this place long before us, so perhaps we should seek permission from the land before making any changes. The spirit of the place will guide us.
